Knowing your balance is SUPER important. Just like with a Visa gift card, your transaction will only be approved if you have enough funds to cover the total balance. If you can only partially cover the purchase amount, simply run the transaction for the EXACT amount left on the card and pay the remainder with another tender. Check your balance here.
